Quiz Bowl Team Competes in Maryland

The middle school team chows down on some doughnuts before the competition begins.

You might not realize it, but Robinson has a quiz bowl team and club. Quiz bowl is an academic challenge game, similar to Jeopardy! or It’s Academic, in which two teams, consisting of about four players, answer a series of tossup and bonus questions.

On November 6, Centennial High School in Ellicott City, Maryland, hosted a quiz bowl tournament. 102 teams participated, in three levels: Varsity, Novice, and Elementary/Middle, including four from Robinson, referred to as Robinson A, B, C, and D. (A (varsity) and B (novice) for the high school, C and D middle).

The middle school teams did astoundingly well. The C team had a record of 5-0 in the morning, placing in the top playoff bracket, while D was 3-2, placing in the lower bracket, but still admirable, as all were new players. In the playoffs, both C and D team won  three games out of five, in their respective brackets. Overall, Robinson did extremely well.

Middle School C team: Sufian A (captain), Aaron O, Patrick G, Bridget S.

Middle School D team: Sophie C (captain), Jack S, Joseph F, Andy R.

Middle School Quiz Bowl Club Sponsors: Mr. Campana, Ms. Reade
