Yoga Club is a relaxing club that meets after school on Thursdays. It is run by Mrs. Forte in classroom E-217. When you come in, you take off your shoes and sign in. Your phone stays in the phone caddies at the front of the class so you won’t get distracted by them and to help you stay mindful.

Typically the class starts with a guided meditation. To do so, everyone lays or sits on the ground while Mrs. Forte turns off the lights. She plays a meditation voice over which lasts for about 5 minutes. “I like the silent meditations, it helps me relax after a long week you know. I normally fall asleep though” said seventh grader, Heidi W. who’s been going to yoga for a couple months now.

“With the meditating it reminds me to take deep breaths when I’m stressed, it also helps me a lot because the beginning of weeks are stressful,” said Rylah R. who’s been going to yoga for a while now.

After meditation, they do a yoga flow for about 25 minutes which is a mixture of poses using strength and flexibility. “I’m not that flexible but it’s really fun to do the different poses and positions,” said Aidan A who’s been to yoga a few times.

Finally, participants in yoga club work on a mindful activity. These relaxing, fun activities, such as making friendship bracelets, origami or zentangles, are used to remind students to slow down and to remain focused in the present. “The activities are pretty cool cause it’s kind of nice to have fun without using electronics,” Liam B, a seventh grader said. Overall, Yoga Club is a way to relax and release stress on Thursdays.

If there’s time, yoga club ends with a final guided mediation.
